Air fryer focaccia recipe and tips

Air fryers make it easy to create soft, chewy focaccias with crispy golden crusts. After only 15 minutes, you can dip the bread in soup, use it to make an antipasto platter, or cut into half to create a sandwich.

Add toppings to your focaccia, including colorful vegetables, herbs, and cheeses such as feta or mozzarella. Other toppings include caramelized onions, olives, and roasted vegetables.

What a beautiful picture!

How to make it?

Ingredients:

Water lukewarm 185ml (3/4 cup)

Dry yeast, 3/4 tsp

One pinch of caster sugar

Plain flour 225g (1 1/2 cups)

Table salt, 1/2 teaspoon

Extra virgin olive oil, two tablespoons

Decorate with colorful vegetables and fresh herbs

Sprinkle sea salt flakes

Method:

Pour focaccia and place sugar, water, and yeast in a jug. Stir until combined. Place in a warm area for 5 minutes or until foamy.

In a large bowl, combine the flour with the table salt. Create a hole in the middle. Pour in the yeast mixture. Stir with a wooden fork until a sticky dough is formed.

Line the base of an Air Fryer basket with baking parchment. In the center of the prepared basket, place a pile of dough. Cover the top of the basket with a tea towel. Place the basket in a warm area for 30 minutes.

Pour a finished focaccia drizzle oil over the dough. Spread dough into the basket using your fingertips, ensuring that it is well coated with oil. Cover the basket with a tea towel. Continue to wait for 30 minutes or until the mixture begins to rise.

Decorate the dough with vegetables and herbs. Sprinkle with sea salt. Cook in an air fryer at 180 degrees Celsius for 15 minutes or until golden. Cut into strips.

These are some tips for you:

Tip #1: Wait until the mixture is foamy before mixing in the wet ingredients. The yeast will be activated, and the ingredients can now be combined. The dough will not rise if it does not froth.

Tip #2: Use a wooden spoon to combine the dry ingredients with the yeast mixture. You’ll have a hard time mixing this dough with your hands because it is so sticky. You can also use the spoon to push the dough into an air fryer basket.

Tip #3: Make certain the baking paper that lines the air fryer’s basket does not extend more than 2cm above the basket. If the baking paper reaches the top of your basket, it could catch fire.

Tip #4: When spreading the dough in the air fryer, create dimples with your fingertips. The dough will not rise as quickly, and the focaccia will retain its characteristic flatness. Oil can also collect in the dimples.

Tip #5: Decorate the dough with a variety of vegetables and herbs. You can either be creative and arrange the ingredients to create a focaccia, or you can keep it simple, as shown here.

Tip #6: Once you have decorated the dough, gently press the ingredients down so that they remain in place during cooking. Sprinkle sea salt flake on top. Be careful not to burn the toppings or bread when you air fry.
